YB Tan Sri Dato Hj SOK Ubaithullah

• Founder and First President, PERMIM President 1973 to 1976

• Successfully brought some 40 associations under one umbrella Federation and laid
  the foundation for PERMIM

Tuan Hj Mohamed Ismail Sharif

• PERMIM President 1976 to 1988

• Instrumental in purchasing 0.5 acre land in Kelana Jaya for PERMIM

• Instrumental in setting up PERMIMA Corporative and own newspaper "Namkural"

• Carried out initiatives to surface socio-economic issues affecting the community,
  published a paper by Bro Seeni Naina Mohamed entitled "Analisa Kedudukan
  Orang-Orang Islam Keturunan India DiMalaysia Sekarang dan Rancangan Kemajuan
  Masa Hadpan",

YB Dato' Hj SMI Shaik Alauddeen


• PERMIM President 1988 to 1990

• Instrumental in purchasing current office in Jalan Masjid India



 
 

 

 

Yang Berbahagia Dato Hj Mohd Iqbal

• PERMIM President 1990 to 1992

• Convenor of the 1969 Convention under the auspices of the Perak Muslim Progressive Association, Taiping, which led to the formation of national umbrella body for Indian Muslim organizations in Malaysia.

• Co-founder of PERMIM and Pro-tem Secretary and drafted the PERMIM constitution and registered the entity.

• Organizer of the First Delegates Conference of PERMIM in 1973 and continued his commitment as General Secretary until 1976.

• Head of the Youth Wing in 1986, initiated and implemented various development programmes such as entrepreneurship development, youth leadership development, educational programmes and etc.

• Instrumental in bringing corporate style management to PERMIM, focussed on community related developments such as Wawasan 2020 conference, zakat and haj seminars, organized protest and submitted Memorandum on the Gulf War and on Babri Masjid, coordinated International Islamic Literary Congress in India and help to found the Muslim Restaurant Owners Association.

Saudara Shahul Hameed Shaik Mohideen

• PERMIM President 1992 to 1998

• Brought semblance of unity and purpose to PERMIM

• Promoted expansion of PERMIM via establishment of more branches

• Put to use idle land for car parking to generate income and cleaned up debts

• Secured documentation relating to PERMIM properties

• Focussed on education and youth related activities, instrumental in organizing First
  Economic Seminar on  Wawasan 2020 with participation of community leaders
  and intellectuals

• Instrumental in establishing the PERMIM Education Fund

Tuan Hj Anver Hussain Maricar

• PERMIM President 1998 to 2001

• Successfully in augrated the Education Fund Board, continued focus on education
  and economy, architect of first business seminar on SMI

• Obtained increased attention and awareness from the government regarding
   PERMIM's role as the sole representative of Indian Muslims in Malaysia

• Appointed by Prime Minster as member of 2nd Majlis Perundangan Ekonomi Negara
  (MAPEN), participated inalong with many prominent political and business leaders,
  developed and submitted memorandum to MAPEN outlining issues and solutions
  affecting the community

• Appointed by the PM as a member of the panel, the Advisory Council for
  Community Development and National Integration.

• Architect of a Joint Venture with a property developer to develop PERMIM land
   but JV was prevented from happening by community leaders

Tuan Hj Jamarul Khan Hj Kadir

• PERMIM President 2001 to 2005

• Brought higher visibility and acceptance by the government and other national
  NGOs through his active involvement in national NGOs

• Strong advocate against canopy structure in front of Masjid India, mobilized print
  and electronic media and people power to convince the government to dismantle
  part of canopy structure blocking the view and access to the mosque
